This premium Van de Graaff Generator is designed to allow students to clearly see how this apparatus generates the electrostatic charge necessary to 'jump the gap'. The sphere can generate up to 200kV, and can be operated both manually and by a variable speed electric motor. Adjustable discharge sphere, electrostatic plume and electrostatic whirl are included.

  • Belt housing is made out of Perspex, making the unit different to most VDGs.
  • Compliant to EN61010: 2010: certificates available on request.
  • Sphere Diameters: 225mm and 70mm
  • Height: 650mm
  • Base: 250mm x 350mm
  • Key Stage 3 to A-Level Physics: Static Electricity, Charge Conservation and Transfer, Triboelectric Effect (Charging by Friction), Ionisation
  • Static Generators should only be operated by trained school personnel.
  • The Generators should not be used by individuals who have a pacemaker or cochlear implant fitted.
  • Van de Graaff Generators should not be operated in close proximity to electronic devices such as computers, mobile devices or electronic whiteboards.
  • Static electricity is affected by the weather.  Operating Van de Graaff Generators in damp weather conditions can reduce their effectiveness.
