How to Complete the Experiment?

Using the marker pen trace the template onto the acetate and carefully cut out. Score and fold along the red lines. Tape the free ends together to form a pyramid. Search online for ‘hologram videos’. YouTube has lots of good ones. Place the pyramid in the centre of the phone screen. Switch the lights off, play the video and view the hologram from the side as shown in the diagram below. Enjoy!

What you will need

Plain paper
Pyramid template
Piece of acetate or CD case
Black marker pen
Scissors
Sticky tape
Smartphone with hologram app

Why Does this Work?

4 distorted images of a 3d model are displayed on the phone screen. These are reflected on the four sides of the pyramid. When the pyramid is viewed straight on, the 4 separate reflections come together to produce one 3d image.
