Philip Harris Foundation Physics - Loop Track
Philip Harris Foundation Physics - Loop Track
Product code: PP00054191
Product Description
Foundation Physics - Loop Track
Please Note: The Foundation Physics Universal Stand is not included with the Loop Track and will need to be purchased separately using code PP00054183
- The Foundation Physics range centres around the Universal Stand and includes accessories which allow a wide range of experiments to be conducted. Each add-on includes a comprehensive instructional guide with student tasks which are linked to the curriculum. The Universal Stand is required for each add-on.
When used with the Foundation Physics Universal Stand, this Loop Track enables students to investigate how a roller coaster car can stay on the track when it travels in a large, circular loop.
This uses a straight, 80 cm long portion of the track with a marble to investigate acceleration. The circular portion lets students experimentally determine the minimum velocity the marble needs to make one full trip around the loop.
A photogate system (not supplied) can be incorporated to take speed and acceleration measurements.
The Loop Track includes:
- 1 x Loop Track with mounting bolt
- Plastic Marbles (19mm diameter)
- Steel Marbles (19mm diameter)
- Instructions
- Teachers Guide
- Students Guide
Additional apparatus required:
- Foundation Physics Universal Stand
- Photogate System (optional)
- Stopwatch
- Metre Ruler
- Combine with the Foundation Physics Universal Stand (available separately) to teach around and demonstrate Motion and Forces.
- Suitable for staff and student use.
- The Foundation Physics range centres around the Universal Stand and includes accessories which allow a wide range of experiments to be conducted. Each add-on includes a comprehensive instructional guide with student tasks which are linked to the curriculum.
- Key Stage 3 Physics - Speed and the quantitative relationship between average speed, distance and time (speed = distance ÷ time). Forces being needed to cause objects to stop or start moving, or to change their speed or direction of motion (qualitative only)
- Key Stage 4 Physics - Explain the vector-scalar distinction as it applies to displacement, velocity and speed. Explain that motion in a circle involves constant speed but changing velocity (qualitative only). Make and interpret measurements of distances, times, speeds and accelerations, and represent these in graphical form.
Activities could include:
- Examination of Uniform Accelerated Motion
- Conservation of Mechanical Energy
- Vertical Circular Motion and Conservation of Energy
